After getting some much needed sleep, Mal and I decided to hit Austin bright and early. I wish I would had done a tad more research, cause I would have figured out that Fun Fun Fun Fest would be going on the same exact weekend we were there. But alas, we explored the city anyway. Luckily Mal has an old coworker who lived in Austin and New Orleans and gave us all the great spots to check out. So we started off with breakfast at a place called Torchy’s Tacos, which was literally in a trailer park. Where I got their monthly special taco, The Turkey Mole Taco. And holy christ was it good.
I also got their famous Miga Taco, which was also divine. After breakfast we decided to walk around town for a little bit and try and explore. We ended up at the capitol building.
We ended up at a bar in the East part of Austin called Rio Ritas. AMAZING cocktails and super cheap. Which is right up my alley.
We then headed for another highly recommended place in the suburbs of Austin called, Red’s Porch. Where we watched the Chargers lose to Green Bay and devoured some appetizers. Good ol Queso and Guac.
The view from the balcony of this place was pretty awesome too. Even though it was overcast.
We kind of debated about where to eat dinner. We knew we wanted Texas BBQ, and we had a couple of recommendations. We went with Stubbs. It wasn’t a bad choice, but I think it was built up too much for me. Good food, just not spectacular.
After din din, I had a dream come true. I got to meet Mr. David Liebe Hart. If you Don’t know, well, you suck. But he is a reoccurring character on Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job. He also believes that, when he was younger, he was abducted by Korendian aliens (from the Korendor system), who took skin and blood samples from him. He insists that aliens look like humans as opposed to the notion in pop culture that they're little green men. His most notable song, "Salame", refers to the salutation of the Korendian race. We were walking by this bar called Beerland and walked by a van with a guy sitting in it. We passed it and Mal and I both looked at eachother and immediately knew it was someone famous. Though we did not quite think of the same person. See, Mal thought it was Al Roker. Yea that Al Roker. This is me and David Liebe Hart before his punk rock show at Beerland. Where he tried to sell me EVERYTHING.
